During the preview rounds, the plays dowhill 355 yards, and I hit a big 3-iron into the fairway, chased a 7-iron off a hillside just left of the green to 5 feet and made the putt for a birdie.

Ron Jackimowicz:

After taking nines on the first two holes, any of the other eight would fit the bill, but I parred No. 3, the 166-yard downhill par-3. My tee shot hit the little hillside next to the green and curled around to within about 20 feet. I two-putted for par.

In golf, whenever a player intends to make a full swing the rule of thumb is that you should stand with your feet, knees, hips and shoulders on a line that is parallel to the line of shot - a position described as being "square" to the target.

Read story Strong bunker play requires good set-up and practice By Kevin Wheeler, Forest Hills Golf Pro Publisehd: Friday, June 12, 2009

Bunker play is an important part of scoring on the golf course. Better players would rather be in the sand than in the rough, because it is easier to judge a bunker shot than the thickness of the rough.
