Award ranks hospital among best for cancer program

Bay Area Hospital has received an award for outstanding performance for a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program.

The hospital has been granted a "Three-Year Approval Award with Commendation" from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

The hospital's cancer program was reviewed and compared nationally. All aspects of cancer patient care given at Bay Area Hospital met or exceeded the highest standards set by the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer. The hospital is now ranked among the best for its cancer program, a hospital press release said.

Patients have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and innovative, cutting edge treatments, often offered only at major university health care systems. Individualized treatment plans are carefully designed to offer total care that includes not only cancer treatment, but nutritional guidance, physical rehabilitation, social services, home health, palliative care, best supportive care and a multitude of support services.
