Above: Jim Doot and Barbara Tonascia, dance as the Oregon Lab Band performs at the Coos County Fair. The two have been vacationing in Bandon for a few days and spent their last day at the Coos County Fair. They said afterwards they would like the band to come to Sonoma, Calif., where they live and perform there. It was not time for judging the llamas on the obstacle course, but it gave time for some young animal contestants a chance to get in a little practice.

At right: Sheep brought in from a local ranch are being used by contestants in the sheep fitting contest Thursday at the Coos County Fair. Julia Scolari, Coquille, and Emily Woods, Coos Bay, were partnered up as a junior team in the event where they have one hour to prepare and show a sheep they have never worked with before. Both the girls are with the Tommie Girlz sheep club.

At top: In front, Emily Woods, 9, from Coos Bay, and Shawn Culley, 12, of Port Orford, work with Felix going through the water pit. Behind them is Cheyenne McClure, 9, of Port Orford, waiting with Brambles.

In the market animal aisle at the Coos County Fair, 13-year-old Cody Rood, of Coos Bay and who is a member of the Sumner Little Beefers, takes his time on clean-up duty in the barn Thursday afternoon. Each club member has set times for when he or she has to maintain the aisles and answer questions from fairgoers. The clean surroundings are part of the points earned by clubs for their herdsmanship awards during the fair. Sprucing up is constantly done by all the clubs around their pens.
