Diana Avila Student Picture
Diana Avila is the daughter of Xiamara and Melvin King. She is a member of the Latino Club and served as president of the club last year and vice president this year. Diana is a member of the national honor society and her church's youth group. She has volunteered her time working with and promoting the Dances for Families program. Diana has done all of these activities while maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average and is a valedictorian of her senior class. She will attend Southwestern Oregon Community College next year and plans on becoming an engineer.
Kelsey Flathers Student Picture
Kelsey Flathers is the daughter of Vicki Matson and Robert Flathers. She has been an active member in Key Club and National Honor Society. Kelsey has volunteered her time working with the SOLV Oregon Beach Clean Up. Kelsey has been a member of the Marshfield High School swim team, Gold Coast swim team, and Marshfield's journalism staff. She is an outstanding student. She has earned a 4.0 grade point average while taking a very challenging class schedule. She will continue her education at the University of Chicago.
Brianna George Student Picture
Brianna George, the daughter of Robert and Tina George is a four-year letterman in basketball and softball. She was awarded all-league honors in basketball and softball for the past three seasons. She is a member of National Honor Society. Brianna has done volunteer work with the Junior Optimist Club putting together a haunted house fundraiser and participating in the park cleanup program. She has worked with Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon as a youth referee and as a Seabreeze Basketball Camp coach. Brianna has earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average and is a valedictorian of her senior class. She will attend Southwestern Oregon Community College next fall and plans on majoring in elementary education.
Daniel Hamer Student Picture
Edward Daniel "Tennessee" Hamer is a graduating senior at Marshfield High School, and is the son of Jeanne Mask and Dan Hamer. Daniel moved to Coos Bay with his mother and stepfather, John Mask, at the beginning of his freshman year from Bolivar, Tenn. following a number of moves. Daniel is an excellent student who has been involved in numerous activities including football, the business manager of the Marshfield Times (numerous state awards including Excellent in News Feature and Best in Category of Advertising Design), National Honor Society, ASB activity coordinator, Mr. MHS and Young Life. He enjoys surfing and riding his scooter and unicycle when he finds the time in his busy schedule. Daniel will attend the University of Oregon, where he will participate in the Society of College Scholars and major in business.
Christine Hunter Student Picture
Christine Hunter is a graduating senior at Marshfield High School, who has grown up in Coos Bay. She is the daughter of Denise and James Hunter and has a twin sister, Chelsea. Christine has participated in a number activities during her years at Marshfield including National Honor Society, Knowledge Bowl, Academic Challenge and the soccer team (captain the past two years). She has enjoyed her life in Coos Bay and years at MHS. She will work this summer and attend the Western Oregon University in the fall to study business and minor in Spanish. She would like to join the Peace Corps following college and serve in Central America.
Breanna Jansen Student Picture
Breanna "Bre" Jansen is a graduating senior at Marshfield High School, who has grown up in Coos Bay. She is the daughter of Louetta and Rob Jansen and has two older sisters, Jennie and Emilee, both Pirate Alumni. Bre is a very exceptional person and student, one who is always willing to lend assistance to anyone. She has participated in numerous activities during her years at Marshfield including volleyball, soccer, basketball, secretary of the National Honor Society, the British Exchange Club, Mr. MHS girl and a Junior Leader with Young Life. She enjoys dance, camping and spending time with her family and friends. She earned her Certified Nursing Assistant License this year and plans to pursue a career in pediatric nursing. She has enjoyed her time at MHS and will devote her life to helping brighten the lives of children one by one. Bre will attend the Western Oregon University in the fall.
Cassie Messerle Student Picture
Cassie Messerle is a graduating senior at Marshfield High School. She is the daughter of Cammi and Blaine Messerle and has a brother, Chase. Cassie has participated in a number activities during her years at Marshfield including National Honor Society, Concert Choir, the soccer team (captain the past two years) and Mr. MHS girl. Cassie is an excellent student and enjoys playing piano and guitar, riding quads, playing soccer or spending time with her family and friends. She will attend Southwestern Oregon Community College then transfer to study dental hygiene at Oregon State.
David Perrin Student Picture
David Perrin is well respected by his peers, high school staff and community members. He sets a great example for others with his drive for academic rigor, community involvement and leadership. David has demonstrated a surmount level of commitment to tennis. He plays for the high school tennis team and Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon. David has been MVP of the high school tennis team for two consecutive years and was the team captain this year; he also has attended regionals for the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon, where he received a sportsmanship award. Additionally, he has been a tennis instructor and strings rackets according to specifications of his customers. David has illustrated his community involvement and leadership skills in his work with the Boy Scouts and his Eagle Scout project at Shore Acres State Park. David plans to attend the University of Oregon and study psychology.
Makenzie Scott Student Picture
Makenzie Scott is an outstanding student, athlete and leader. She has taken challenging college preparatory classes throughout her high school career and been extremely successful. Makenzie is an organized and dedicated individual that is able to handle many activities at once and continue to flourish in all of them at the same time. She has been an invaluable member of the journalism and yearbook departments at Marshfield. Makenzie also has been a state participant in cross country and track and captain of all four sports she has participated in, including basketball and volleyball. When she is not studying or practicing she also dedicates her time to volunteering with activities such as, Mr. MHS, Key Club, and National Honor Society. Makenzie is well respected by high schoolstaff and peers at Marshfield. She sets a fantastic example for other students. Makenzie is undecided of her exact plans after graduation, but plans to study business at either the University of Oregon or Portland State.
Geoff VanPulliam Student Picture
Throughout the four years Geoff VanPulliam has attended Marshfield he has proven to be a dedicated student who challenges himself academically. He has devoted an abundant amount of time to prepare for his future by taking computer technology and drafting classes on the Marshfield campus. Geoff has been a member of the varsity baseball team for three years and varsity football team for two years. As a part of being involved in these two sports he has volunteered his time to help with field upkeep, fundraising, tournaments and camps. Geoff has shown a great deal of commitment to other students and the community with his work in tutoring high school and elementary students, cutting wood for local church members and installing and managing wood duck boxes in the South Slough Sanctuary. Next year Geoff plans on attending Oregon Institute of Technology to become a computer software developer.
Sarah Woods Student Picture
Sarah Woods is a student with amazing character. She is very friendly and always willing to lend a hand. Sarah's scholastic achievement is eminent. She is held with high regard by high school staff for her academic achievements. The teaching staff has awarded her with being the December Girl of the Month, Science Student of the Year and AP History Student of the Year. Not only is Sarah an exceptional person and student, she also is very musically talented. Sarah is a crucial part of both of our high school audition choirs. She also sings and plays the guitar for her church on a weekly basis. Sarah has demonstrated her high levels of commitment with her many hours spent rehearsing for choir and dance team, along with being president of her local 4-H club where she has participated in and organized events. Next year Sarah plans to study animal science at Oregon State University.
