Jessica Adeline
smoke_jessicaHi, I’m Jessica, and I’m a nicotine fiend. It started with a clove cigarette at a journalism convention with some college friends when I was 23 or 24. It gave me a buzz, which I never expected. Actually, I never understood the point of smoking cigarettes until then. My father smoked, and I remember his hair smelling terrible. Anyway, when I went on my first trip to Europe with a school friend, we quickly graduated to Marlboro Lights because we couldn’t get cloves. I came back to the states with a mad nicotine addiction. She, being the smarter one, quit.

I’ve tried going cold turkey several times over the years, especially after developing colds. I also tried just bumming them off of friends now and then, but quickly felt like a mooch.

Since I’m 30 and trying to get my life and finances in order, I figure now is the time to quit permanently. Only problem is, although I know cigarettes are disgusting and unhealthy, I love them so. I’m hoping to start by weaning myself off the smokes.

I’d prefer to do this without anti-smoking aids, but we’ll see if I have the will power to do it. Otherwise, I’ll go for the patch or nicotine gum.

smoke_adelineMy name is Adeline and I have been smoking since I was fourteen.I have stopped and started smoking 4 different times over the past 2 years or so. In my quest to become smoke free, I have tried Chantix, nicotine patches and nicotine gum.

For this go around, I plan to attempt to go cold turkey – kind of. I am going to cut back each day over the next two weeks until I am completely cigarette free. My goal is to be a non-smoker by the end of July. Here’s to a healthier lifestyle!
