Indoor marijuana farm found near police station

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I am thinking this is pretty smart.  If you can grow within 25 feet of a police station and they can’t detect the smell then it’s a good place because the police aren’t that sharp.  And who would bust in and try to rob a grow operation within 25 feet of a police department?

marijuana-growing-near-police-stationLOS ANGELES (AP) — Officials said an elaborate marijuana growing site was found in an industrial building 25 feet from the back door of the Topanga police station in Los Angeles, and three people are under arrest. Officer Karen Rayner said the pot was discovered Wednesday when a search warrant was served at an address adjacent to the station in Canoga Park.

The indoor marijuana farm included lights, automated irrigation and a ventilation system. Investigators said it had been there for at least eight months.

The investigation began a week ago, when officers smelled marijuana in the police station parking lot.

The suspects’ names have not been released. Rayner says they face a number of narcotics charges.

Man throws feces in courtroom and gets 31 years

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I guess if you are facing a long prison sentence why not do whatever you can to make it worse.  I am sure this will help to influence jury and judge alike to give you light sentencing.  I am guessing he has not read “How to win friends and influence people”

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A man who sneaked a bag of his feces into a San Diego courtroom during his home-invasion robbery trial, smeared it on his lawyer and threw it at jurors has been sentenced to 31 years in prison.

Superior Court Judge Frank Brown on Monday sentenced Weusi McGowan for robbery, burglary and two assault charges stemming from the feces-flinging incident during his January trial.

McGowan, who attorneys say suffers from mental illness, had asked for a mistrial because he believed jurors had seen him in restraints when he entered the courtroom.

Several days after his request was denied, McGowan pulled out a bag of excrement he had hidden in his clothing, rubbed it on his lawyer and tossed it at the jury, hitting one juror’s computer case.

Man litters national park with 3,000 golf balls

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Nothing like honoring deceased golfers buy shooting 1,000 golf balls into a national park.  I can’t wait to see how this defense plays out.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A man who said he hurled thousands of golf balls into Joshua Tree National Park for more than a year to honor deceased golfers will be explaining his tribute to a federal magistrate.

Park rangers cited 57-year-old Douglas Jones for abandoning property, littering and feeding wildlife. Park spokesman Joe Zarki said Wednesday that Jones tossed some 3,000 golf balls from his vehicle.

Jones also scattered a few tennis balls and park literature and left fruit and vegetables along park roads. Jones says rangers spent 370 hours cleaning up, at a cost of $9,000.

Finally spotted in action last month, Jones allegedly told rangers he threw the golf balls to leave his mark and honor deceased golfers. The food was for stranded hikers.

Mom allegedly beats daughter’s school bus driver

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

I guess this lady isn’t going to get any humanitarian awards.   I think her punishment should be to have to ride in a school bus every day for an entire year to see how some kids behave.

RICHWOOD, La. (AP) — Police booked a woman with beating her daughter’s school bus driver. The 29-year-old woman faces charges of battery of a schoolteacher and simple battery of the infirm.

According to an arrest affidavit, a Ouachita Parish School bus driver said the woman showed up at her house Tuesday evening and struck her in the mouth, causing bleeding, because she thought the bus driver was mean to her daughter.

When a 60-year-old woman tried to intervene, the suspect allegedly pushed her down, causing her head to strike against the floor.
