Woman lets daughter ride in box on top of van

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

I am thinking a parenting award is needed here.  Putting your 13 year old at risk to hold down a cardboard box on the top of a minivan tied with a clotheshanger.   Surely an bad parent of the year award is justified.

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van. Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said the 37-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after police received a call about a minivan on a state highway with a child riding on top.

Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.

19.2 Pound giant baby draws spectators to hospital

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Now THAT’s a baby!   Sumo wrestlers world wide are scared today as this 19 pound giant enters the arena of life.   Could you imagine being the mother going “wow and I thought maybe I had added a little weight because of twinkies and ho-hos.

KISARAN, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesia’s heaviest-ever newborn drew curious crowds Friday to a hospital where the boy named Akbar – or the Great in Arabic – came into the world at a record 19.2 pounds (8.7 kilograms).

Akbar Risuddin was born to a diabetic mother in a 40-minute cesarean delivery that was complicated because of his unusual weight and size, Dr. Binsar Sitanggang said.

“I’m very happy that my baby and his mother are in good health,” father Muhammad Hasanuddin said Friday. “I hope I can afford to feed the baby enough, because he needs more milk than other babies.”

Crowds pushed to get a peek of the extraordinary boy, who measured nearly 24 inches (62 centimeters) when he was born Monday, at the Abdul Manan hospital in the northern town of Kisaran on the island of Sumatra.

“This is fantastic,” Dewi Miranti, a mother from a nearby village, said as she peered through a window with about a hundred other people. “He looks very well and is cute.”

The baby’s extreme weight was the result of excessive glucose from his mother during pregnancy, Dr. Sitanggang said.

“He is greedy and has a strong appetite, nursing almost nonstop,” the doctor said.

Michigan boy, 6, gets ace using SpongeBob golf ball

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

This is just like fishing, ever gone with a kid with a snoopy pole, they always get the fish.  I guess golf is the same way, if you are using a SpongeBob ball you just have an edge, end of story!

ONEKAMA, Mich. (AP) — Braeden Furlow teed up his SpongeBob SquarePants ball from about 85 yards out, picked up a 3-wood and made a solid hit that bounced twice on the fairway before landing in the hole. Some golfers go their whole lives without marking down a “1.” Braeden’s hole-in-one was his first, but that shouldn’t be a surprise – he’s all of 6 years old.

“I told him he should stop playing because I don’t want him to set the expectations too high on a regular basis,” Braeden’s father, Travis Furlow, told the News Advocate of Manistee for an article published online Monday night.

The lucky round happened on July 6, when the Dearborn family headed out to The Heathlands in Onekama, near their home in Manistee. It was Braeden’s fourth time on the links. On the eighth hole, his moment came.

“He hit it, made pretty solid contact and it bounced twice in the fairway and caught that first cut and broke pretty hard right to left,” Travis Furlow said with a laugh. “It was wild. It was a lot of fun to watch it happen.”

Neither of Braeden’s parents has ever hit a hole-in-one, but they say he hasn’t rubbed it in.

“He handled it like a little gentleman,” his father said. “He’s been humble about it and we’ve talked about not bragging about it.”

And he’s eager to head out on the course again.

“I want to play golf,” Braeden said. “When I’m golfing, I’m going to work on getting a hole-in-one.”

Did Braeden think he could hit a hole in one?

“No,” he told the newspaper.

Could he do it again?

“Yes.”
