UPS truck is champion parking violator

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Not bad for a single driver but I would suspect he is a bit of an under-achiever in that with just a little bit more effort he could have topped out over 200.  Maybe next year he will set a better example for the other drivers and try harder.

DENVER (AP) — A single UPS delivery truck is the champion of Denver parking violations, racking up 196 tickets worth nearly $5,700 last year.

The Denver Post reported the dubious achievement Wednesday.

UPS spokesman Mark Dickens says parking tickets are a cost of doing business in some cities.

Bear climbs ladder to escape skate park

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Hey even a bear likes to play in a skate park.  It’s a good thing this one figured out what the ladder was for.  Skate on dude!

bear with skateboardSNOWMASS, Colo. (AP) — A bear that wandered into a sunken skateboard park and got stuck was rescued when officials lowered a ladder so it could climb out.

The bear was discovered Tuesday morning in the Colorado resort town of Snowmass. Officials say it apparently was in the park all night, and couldn’t get out because of the steep concrete sides.

Workers from the Parks and Recreation Department lowered a long ladder. The bear eventually climbed the ladder and wandered away.

No injuries were reported to people or the bear.

Bear sightings have been common this summer in the Colorado mountains. Authorities are pressing residents not to leave out food or trash that attract bears.

Most bears are trapped and relocated after encounters with humans. More aggressive bears are shot.

Bear intruder takes 3 rounds from shotgun, 5 shots from a handgun, 2 from rifle before going down

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

I have to wonder if this wasn’t excessive force.  Yogi bear is one tough old bear for sure.  I am surprised this person had enough time to shoot 10 times with 3 guns.  MENTAL NOTE: Don’t break into this guys house, he is heavily armed!

Okay so this ISN'T that bear, it's still a nice big bear!

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A black bear that broke into a Boulder County home and charged at the homeowner was killed only after three rounds from a shotgun, five shots from a handgun and two from a rifle. Paul Fischer fired birdshot and a rubber bullet at the 120-pound bear it was found rummaging through the kitchen early Monday morning. The family escaped when the third shot seemed to disorient the bear.

Sheriff’s deputies found a bear trying to claw his way through a screen door when they arrived. Sgt. Lance Enholm fired his handgun five times at the bear after determining it was severely wounded.

Enholm says the bear kept moving toward him and was finally felled and killed by two shots from his rifle.

Cop accused of pulling gun while waiting for food

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

On this one I have to side with the cops, sometimes the “fast” in fast food sure seems like an eternity when you are waiting for that quarter pounder with cheese and succulent french frys.   But I suppose as a cop he should have better impulse control, and I don’t have a gun so I will just wait impatiently when I am there.
