Man arrested for calling 911, asking for sex

Friday, November 13th, 2009

In reading this a song came to mind, Lookin’ for love by Waylon Jennings.   “I was looking for love in all the wrong places, looking for love in too many faces . . .”  If you are dumb enough to do this you will fit in well in jail.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Florida police say a man arrested for repeatedly calling 911 looking for sex claimed it was the only number he could dial after running out of cell phone minutes. Tampa police said 29-year-old Joshua Basso made sexual comments to the 911 dispatcher and asked if he could come to her house. Investigators say she hung up, but he called back four more times.

He was arrested about 15 minutes later at his home late Wednesday and charged with making a false 911 call. Basso reportedly told officers that he didn’t think he would get in trouble for calling 911.

Tampa jail records show Basso is being held without bond but don’t indicate whether he has an attorney. He is listed as unemployed with arrests for theft and other crimes dating back to 2001.

Man using ‘fat’ defense in shooting death of son-in-law

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

I have heard of fat getting blamed for a lot of things in the past, but this is something new.  ”Really, I couldn’t have done it because I was fat”, let the “i’m fat” defenses start pouring forth.  And again wouldn’t you know it’s in, yep, you guessed it, Florida.  What a perfect last name for this defense is will be called the Ate’s maneuver.

HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) — Prosecutors cross-examining a Florida man who claims he was too fat to have killed his former son-in-law tried to portray the defendant as a skilled marksman and attempted to undercut his alibi.

The 62-year-old defendant, Edward Ates, was at least 285 pounds when Paul Duncsak was shot in 2006.

Ates’ attorney has made the case that his client didn’t have the energy to run up a staircase, accurately shoot Duncsak, leave before police arrived, then make a 21-hour drive to his mother’s home in Louisiana, as prosecutors claim.

His doctor testified that bounding up the stairs would have caused Ates to become short of breath and shake, making it difficult to keep his wrist straight enough to accurately fire a gun at someone from a distance.

On Thursday, Ates took the stand in his own defense but didn’t delve much into his weight.

Prosecutors claim Ates drove from his home in Fort Pierce, Fla., to Duncsak’s $1.1 million home in Ramsey, about 25 miles northwest of Manhattan, in August 2006 and shot him as he came home from work. Police quickly suspected Ates and found him 24 hours later at his mother’s home in Sibley, La.

Game over: Cops caught playing Wii game in house they had just raided, face discipline

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Uh oh these cops are not only stopping the bad guys they are becoming the bad guys.  I guess WII bowling is just to addicting.  I imagine this will be a slap on the wrist but, come on, what were you cops thinking?

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — It’s game over for some police officers who played video games while they raided a convicted drug dealer’s home in central Florida.

Surveillance video obtained by WFLA in Tampa caught the officers playing a Nintendo Wii bowling game, with one furiously jumping up and down in celebration. Officials say some of the officers could be disciplined.

Officers with the anti-drug task force had just stormed into the home of the convicted drug dealer, who was already in custody. One Polk County sheriff’s detective can be seen taking several breaks from cataloging evidence so she can bowl frames.

The officers did not know a video camera had been set up in the house before the March raid.

Florida deputy pulls over a naked man riding a motorcycle, charges him with DUI

Friday, September 18th, 2009

That’s not something you see very often a 45 year old driving down the highway naked and intoxicated.   Having had the luck of being smacked by a bumble while holding my hand out the window at 55mph.  I am not sure how this would work naked on a motorcycle, but it could be ugly

OCALA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida man was charged with driving under the influence after he was spotted riding his motorcycle naked. The Marion County deputy was driving on Interstate 75 early Tuesday when he spotted what appeared to be a naked man on a motorcycle. The deputy caught up with 45-year-old J. Dante Krauss at a red light and stopped him.

Capt. Mike Rolls said Krauss could not explain where he was coming from or why he was naked. Rolls said the deputy asked him if he had been drinking, and he answered that he had. Breathalyzer tests revealed blood alcohol levels above .08, the state’s legal limit to drive.

Krauss was charged with what Rolls said turned out to be his fifth DUI. Jail records showed he was later released on $20,000 bail. They did not list an attorney and his phone number was not listed.
