Wedding ring found in dump amid 10 tons of trash

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

I have never been one to think that looking through a haystack was worth it for a needle, but if it’s diamonds the rules change.  That is pretty cool that it was found.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (AP) — Sanitation workers sorted through 10 tons of trash to recover a wedding ring accidentally thrown away by a New Jersey couple.

Bridget Pericolo had placed the ring in a cup that her husband, Angelo, threw out with the garbage before leaving for work. When he realized the mistake, he contacted the town’s sanitation supervisor, who suggested coming by the Parsippany dump.

Supervisor Michael Brotons and sanitation workers Edgar Lopez and Joseph McGee dug through the refuse until they found the garbage bag that Angelo Pericolo had thrown away.

The Pericolos recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Pair trying to catch fish net $87,000 in cash

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Whoa!  I need to go fishing more often.  I know I have regaled my friends with tails of whoppers (pun intended) but I have never sold a whopper about landing $100,000 dollars.  But rest assured should I ever do it, you won’t hear a peep out of me LOL

SYDNEY (AP) — Two Australian teenagers who found almost 100,000 Australian dollars ($87,000) in cash during a fishing trip have handed it over to police – after spending some time thinking about it. The pair discovered the money earlier this month near the New South Wales town of Nimbin – a center of hippie culture where members of numerous communes annually celebrate a festival to promote cannabis use.

The teenagers contacted police on Friday, after revealing the find to an unidentified adult they know and getting some legal advice, police said in a statement.

Papa John’s founder pays $250K reward, reunites with ‘71 Camaro Z28 he sold to save business

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Them’s some expensive wheels!  I guess he’s doing okay if he can shell out 250k for a 2,800 camaro.   I guess it’s up to all of us to pick up the slack, someone order me a pizza!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — With the help of a $250,000 reward, the founder of the Papa John’s pizza chain has finally reunited with the muscle car he sold years ago to help keep his family’s business afloat.

John Schnatter sold the gold-and-black 1971 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 for $2,800 in 1983. The money helped save his father’s tavern in Jeffersonville, Ind., and he used the rest to start what would become a worldwide pizza business.

11-foot python unexpected guest for family

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

I am sure glad this happened to them and not my wife, she’s not a fan of snakes and I am sure if that had been my yard even after it was gone i’d be helping to pack up and move!    Snakes and marital bliss do not go hand in hand.

This wasn't the snake but who knows

This wasn't the snake but who knows

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California family got a slithery surprise when an 11-foot python turned up in their front yard.

Francisco Delgadillo says he was chatting with his sister on their porch Sunday night in Lake Elsinore when he saw an enormous snake moving across the fenced yard.

The first animal control officer who saw the size of the critter had to call for backup. Two officers then wrangled the 50-pound snake into a truck and took it to a shelter.

Authorities say the Burmese python probably was somebody’s pet. If the owner doesn’t claim it by the end of the week, it probably will be given to a snake rescue group.
