Jobless NYC woman sues college for $70K in tuition

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I guess in this day and age if you can’t get a job, sue someone and don’t worry about working for a while.   Maybe we could all sue our colleges if our career choices don’t work out.  Do I hear “Class Action”.

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City woman who says she can’t find a job is suing the college where she earned a bachelor’s degree.

Trina Thompson filed a lawsuit last week against Monroe College in Bronx Supreme Court. The 27-year-old is seeking the $70,000 she spent on tuition.

Thompson says she’s been unable to find gainful employment since she received her information technology degree in April.

She says the Bronx school’s Office of Career Advancement hasn’t provided her with the leads and career advice it promises.

Monroe College spokesman Gary Axelbank says Thompson’s lawsuit is completely without merit.

The college insists it helps its graduates find jobs.

Vegan group sues in NJ to put warning labels on hot dogs

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

WTH?  Hotdogs can cause cancer?   What is this world coming too?   Where would baseball be without hotdogs, and what would generations of TV watchers do when they see a Sabrett’s hot dog stand on TV.  No more “OMG those are so good”, now it will be “Yep, they killed uncle Jimmy”.  Woe is US!

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Hot dogs may be as American as baseball and apple pie, but an anti-meat advocacy group says they’re hazardous to your health and should carry warning labels.

The group, called the Cancer Project, wants to force hot dog makers to use warning labels. An offshoot of a pro-vegetarian organization, the Cancer Project filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Superior Court in Newark on behalf of three New Jersey residents. The defendants are Kraft Foods Inc., manufacturer of the Oscar Mayer brand; Sara Lee Corp.; Nathan’s Famous; and the makers of the Hebrew National and Sabrett brands.

The lawsuit cites a report by the American Institute for Cancer Research that concluded regular consumption of processed meat can increase the risk of colorectal and other forms of cancer.

Colorado court fight by woman who says Easter decorations got her evicted from apartment

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A woman is going to court claiming she was wrongly evicted from her apartment because she kept her Easter decorations on her door for two weeks after the holiday.

Carol Burdick claims her landlord unjustly told her to remove a display of Easter stickers, plastic grass, and Peeps marshmallow candies from her door a few days after the April 12 holiday this year.
