‘Gold’ rings stolen from shop just brass

Monday, November 16th, 2009

I guess it is true, all that glitters is not gold.  In this case these brilliant thieves just didn’t have a clue.  Here’s your sign!

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio jeweler says thieves who smashed their way into his store and got away with rings are in for a surprise when they try to sell them. Henry Triplett of Henry’s Jewelers in Toledo says what appeared to be thousands of dollars in gold rings in his display cases were actually rings made of brass and worth barely 25 cents apiece.

They were dealers’ samples in the style of genuine gold rings that Triplett had safely locked away, out of view.

He says the real cost of Friday’s break-in will come from replacing the front window on his shop and the shattered glass on 13 display cases.

Ohio woman hopes trick-or-treater may find ring

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Now that’s a treat.  Imagine going through your bag of goodies and find a nice diamond ring.   To many kids it’d be something to play with and not know it’s value, to an older kid it’ll probably be sold.  Either way it’s a nice find.

TERRACE PARK, Ohio (AP) — A Halloween trick or treater in Ohio may have gotten a bigger treat than expected – a diamond ring. A woman in suburban Cincinnati said she thinks she may have lost her wedding ring when she was tossing candy into trick or treaters’ bags on Halloween.

Elizabeth Olson, of Terrace Park, said she had the ring enlarged and thinks it may have slipped off her finger when she was throwing candy into the bags, buckets and pillowcases.

Olson is asking people to keep an eye out for the ring and to return it to her if they find it.

‘Lottery winner’ causes riot at coat store

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

An thought comes to me on this one: If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.   What a melee this must have been, 500 people grabbing for everything and heading for the registers, lucky no one was killed.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police say an Ohio woman being driven around in a limousine announced at a coat store she’d won the lottery and would pay for everyone’s purchases but ended up causing a riot when customers realized it was a hoax. Columbus police Lt. Michael Deakins says the woman announced Tuesday she’d spend $500 on everyone at a Burlington Coat Factory, prompting customers to gather at registers and call relatives.

When police arrived, 500 people filled the store and another 1,000 were outside.

Vampires vow till death do us part at Ohio wedding

Monday, October 5th, 2009

vampI’ve heard that statement that was a brutal marriage, but never, that was a bloody marriage, but hey if they are happy who am I to question!

COLUMBIA STATION, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio bride and ghoul have vowed to love each other and haunt and howl at the moon together at a Halloween-themed wedding.

Sixty-one-year-old Jack Holsinger and 44-year-old Connie Spitznagel were both made up as pale-faced vampires for their scare-emoney Saturday night at a haunted house near Cleveland. The two chose the location because it’s operated by the same people who own a campground where the couple met.

Holsinger arrived in a coffin inside a hearse, and the coffin was carried to the altar by six pallbearers. Minister Greg Kopp was dressed as Jason in the “Friday the 13th” movies. After the vows were exchanged, he ordered Holsinger not to kiss his new bride but instead to bite her on the neck.
