Cops: Woman smuggled drugs to inmate with kiss

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Love knows no bounds it seems and no bond is stronger than one that leads you to joining someone in prison.   I say throw the book at her.

MERCER, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania woman has been ordered to stand trial on charges she passed a drug-filled balloon to a state prison inmate while kissing him. State police said guards at the State Correctional Institution-Mercer became suspicious when an inmate appeared to swallow something after a prolonged kiss with a visitor on Oct. 19.

When the inmate wouldn’t tell guards what he swallowed, they put him in a cell where they could monitor his bathroom visits and found a balloon filled with marijuana three days later.

Police charged the inmate, and the woman with conspiracy to smuggle contraband and other charges. Both are 41 years old.

A district judge ordered them to stand trial at a hearing on Monday.

Woman and daughter hold signs admitting theft instead of jail time

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Finally a bit of justice that makes sense.   This is a low cost alternative to jail time and probably will lead to the same result, they will think twice before doing it again.   Way to go Mr. District Attorney.

BEDFORD, Pa. (AP) — In exchange for no jail time, a woman and her adult daughter have agreed to stand outside a Pennsylvania courthouse holding signs saying they stole a gift card from a 9-year-old girl on her birthday.

Fifty-six-year-old Evelyn Border and 35-year-old Tina Griekspoor stood outside the court for 4 1/2 hours Tuesday. They held signs that read: “I stole from a 9-year-old girl on her birthday! Don’t steal or this could happen to you!”

Because the women agreed to hold the signs, Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins says he’ll ask for probation instead of jail when they plead guilty to the theft.

Higgins says they swiped a gift card that the girl set on a shelf while a Walmart employee helped her.

The girl’s mother planned to drive by the courthouse to teach her daughter the importance of obeying the law.

Woman put stolen check in church plate

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

I am not sure passing a bad check to a church will get you far on the road to spiritual enlightenment.  Then of course there is the fact that you are committing an illegal act while supporting a church.  I am thinking this isn’t going to go well for her.

NEW BRIGHTON, Pa. (AP) — Police said a woman put a forged $50 check in a church offering plate and stole a woman’s wallet from a pew in the same western Pennsylvania church. New Brighton police Chief Charles Van Fossan said Tuesday that police were still searching for a 20-year-old woman. She allegedly committed the crimes at First Presbyterian Church in New Brighton on Sunday.

Police said the offering check was from a previously stolen checkbook.

The woman used a credit card from the stolen wallet to buy about $200 worth of merchandise from a dollar store and a convenience store. Police said the woman also tried to use a credit card stolen from another church to get a $16,000 cash advance that a bank refused to issue.

New Brighton is about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

Man fires cannon, hits neighbor’s house

Friday, September 4th, 2009

I guess the statement “can’t hit the broad side of a barn is outdated” so he decided to aim at the neighbors house.  Oops, my bad!

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania history buff who recreates firearms from old wars accidentally fired a 2-pound cannonball through the wall of his neighbor’s home.

Fifty-four-year-old William Maser fired a cannonball Wednesday evening outside his home in Georges Township that ricocheted and hit a house 400 yards away.

The cannonball, about two inches in diameter, smashed through a window and a wall before landing in a closet. Authorities say nobody was hurt.

State police charged Maser with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

No one answered the phone Friday at Maser’s home. He tells WPXI-TV recreating 19th century cannons is a longtime hobby. He says he is sorry and he will stop shooting them on his property, about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
