Woman’s begging to get smokes ends in arrest

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I guess when you have to have a smoke it doesn’t matter if you get locked up and who here doesn’t believe smoking is addictive?

DECATUR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A 49-year-old southwestern Michigan woman who asked a sheriff’s deputy to lend her money for cigarettes after just being told to stop begging by the deputy ended up behind bars.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reported the woman was warned on July 23 and again on Friday by the Van Buren County sheriff’s department to stop repeatedly asking her Decatur Township neighbors for money to buy cigarettes.

The sheriff’s department said the woman asked for money from the deputy on Friday, then tried bargaining with the deputy for different dollar amounts. The deputy arrested her for disorderly conduct.

The case was being forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

NH man swipes debit card for smokes, charged 23 quadrillion dollars

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

And here I thought the smoking bill would only up the price of cigarettes a dollar a pack within a year!   At 23 quadrillion I am betting nicotine patches are going to sell like hotcakes.  BUY STOCK LOL

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire man says he swiped his debit card at a gas station to buy a pack of cigarettes and was charged over 23 quadrillion dollars.

Josh Muszynski (Moo-SIN’-ski) checked his account online a few hours later and saw the 17-digit number – a stunning $23,148,855,308,184,500 (twenty-three quadrillion, one hundred forty-eight trillion, eight hundred fifty-five billion, three hundred eight million, one hundred eighty-four thousand, five hundred dollars).

Muszynski says he spent two hours on the phone with Bank of America trying to sort out the string of numbers and the $15 overdraft fee.

The bank corrected the error the next day.

Bank of America tells WMUR-TV only the card issuer, Visa, could answer questions. Visa, in turn, referred questions to the bank.

Inmates burned trying to light handmade cigarette

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

My mother always used to say “don’t play with fire or you will get burned”.  It seems she missed the part, “play with sparks to start a fire, you’ll get burned”.  Maybe they should just kick the habit.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Two inmates at the Chatham County jail in coastal Georgia got burned by their own smoking habit when they started a fire trying to light a handmade cigarette with a spark from an electrical socket.

Both inmates were treated for minor burns after their cellmates quickly doused the fire with water, Sheriff’s Deputy Ron Robinson said Wednesday. He said the jail banned smoking more than a decade ago, but it hasn’t stopped inmates from improvising.

Florida husband accused of drenching wife with hose for smoking in the house

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

One thing I am certain of in life, busting out the hose on my wife would not be a good thing.  Barring police involvement at some point i’d have to sleep.

smokerJENSEN BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities said a man has been charged with domestic battery after he drenched his wife with a garden hose and elbowed her for smoking in the house. An arrest report shows that the 51-year-old husband was charged Saturday. Police said the couple began arguing when the wife began smoking a cigarette in their home.

When the victim picked up the phone and began calling a friend, authorities said the husband believed she was trying to call police and elbowed her in the mouth during a struggle to grab the phone.

The woman was soaked with water when deputies arrived. The husband told deputies he had been watering the grass and did not intend to spray her.

The man was taken to the Martin County Jail and released after posting bond.
